Digital Extremes has launched Warframe's Iceblade of Narin update on all platforms, adding the new ice Warframe Narin, a timed free Banshee reward, Yuvan Peak, Melica's Lab, Entropic Eximus enemies, and more content still scheduled to arrive after launch.

Iceblade of Narin is live, but the rollout is staggered
The Warframe Iceblade of Narin update is live now on all platforms, according to Digital Extremes' official update page, and its cleanest player hook is immediate: log in between Sept. 23 and Oct. 7 to claim a free base Banshee Warframe and try her new ability rework. MMOHuts also reports that the login giveaway includes a built Forma, which makes the timing sharper for anyone who wants to test the reworked kit without farming or buying Banshee first.
That free claim lands alongside one of Warframe's bigger 2026 roster additions, Narin, a sword-dancing ice Warframe built around Cold status, shield recovery, Overguard, armor and shield stripping, and temporary Cold damage for primary and secondary weapons. For players who care about pace, this update is less about a single new frame and more about how Digital Extremes is positioning the next phase of Warframe combat: melee-forward, status-heavy, and tied into new Zariman threats.
The tension is that Iceblade of Narin is live, but not every headline feature arrives on day one. Digital Extremes says Glacial Defiance, a new mode for up to six Tenno, will release in the weeks after the main update. MMOHuts reports that Riven Splicers, a system for combining two Riven traits into a new one from a special pool, are also planned to arrive alongside that later mode. So the update starts now, the free Banshee window starts now, but some of the veteran-facing pressure test is still ahead.
Narin gives Warframe its long-overdue second true ice identity
Narin is the centerpiece. Digital Extremes describes her as a Sword Dancer Warframe who wields an ice rapier and uses ice to heal, defend, and cut through enemies. PCGamesN's interview with Warframe Community Director Megan Everett frames her as the first true Ice-themed Warframe since Frost, one of the original 2013 frames. Everett told PCGamesN that players have long asked for different Warframe variants built around the same element, pointing to fire and electric examples before saying Frost had effectively stood alone as the game's Ice representative.
The design contrast is important. Everett described Frost to PCGamesN as the straightforward fantasy of snow globes, snowballs, and avalanches, while Narin embodies the spirit of an ice crane, dances with an ice rapier, and can briefly take to the air. Her comments position Narin as a product of modern Digital Extremes design, with newer visual tech allowing snow and ice textures and a more poetic silhouette than the team could build around Frost in 2013.
That is the historical hook, but the gameplay hook is cleaner: Narin appears built for players who want to keep moving while managing crowd control and burst windows. Her official kit starts with Neote, a forward lunge using her ice rapier that inflicts Cold damage plus Cold and Puncture status on enemies ahead of her, generating Ice for each enemy hit. Naraemagi lets her recover shields by absorbing Cold status from nearby enemies, grants Overguard if she is already at full shields, and also builds Ice. Hakchum launches her into the air and lets her land at a target location, applying Cold damage vulnerability and Cold status in a wide radius while generating Ice per enemy hit.
Her ultimate is built around setup, marks, and shatter damage
Narin's fourth ability, Nurinarim, is the clearest sign that she is not being pitched as a passive defensive Ice frame. Digital Extremes says the ability requires full Ice to cast. Once activated, an ancestral spirit descends on Narin and she begins sword dancing for continuous nearby damage. Players can press attack on marked targets to launch icy slashes that deplete armor and shields. Hitting Frozen enemies causes them to explode for major radial Cold damage.
That structure makes Narin sound closer to a tempo frame than a simple lockdown pick. You build Ice through contact, status application, and enemy density, then cash it out in a dance phase that rewards target priority. If the numbers hold up in live play, armor and shield depletion could make her valuable in squads that want faster time-to-kill against heavier targets rather than pure area denial.
Her passive, Sangodae, also reaches beyond melee. Digital Extremes says Frozen enemies killed by Narin drop Cold Ammo Packs, which add Cold damage to primary and secondary weapons for a short time. That matters for shooter players because it connects her crowd-control loop to gun output. Narin is still themed around a rapier, but her passive gives rifle and sidearm users a reason to care about what she freezes and when she converts those kills into ammo buffs.
The free Banshee reward gives returning players a low-friction reason to log in
The Warframe free Banshee reward is the update's smartest timing play. Digital Extremes is giving Banshee away from Sept. 23 through Oct. 7 and explicitly ties the giveaway to her new ability rework. MMOHuts reports that the reward is the base Banshee Warframe and includes a built Forma. That means players who missed or ignored Banshee can immediately test the rework without having to detour into acquisition chores.
For returning players, that matters as much as Narin. Warframe updates can create a loadout problem: you log in for the new content, then realize the new or reworked gear requires prep before it feels good. A free frame plus Forma lowers that first-session friction. It also gives Digital Extremes a broader test pool for the Banshee changes, since the rework is no longer limited to players who already owned her or were willing to farm her first.
The timing also gives newer players a practical priority. If you only have time for one Warframe action before digging into the wider Iceblade of Narin content, claim Banshee during the window. Digital Extremes has confirmed the Sept. 23 to Oct. 7 availability period on the official Iceblade of Narin page. The sources provided do not list a make-good plan after that date, so treat the login window as the confirmed path.
Yuvan Peak and Melica's Lab split the update between nostalgia and pressure
Iceblade of Narin sends players back toward familiar ground while pushing the Zariman forward. Digital Extremes describes Yuvan Peak as a unique social Relay on the dark side of Earth, located at a mountain summit where players will find Narin's Crest and her legendary sword frozen in ice. PCGamesN connects the location to The War Within, calling it the snowy mountain where Warframe players made game-defining choices and framing the update as a bridge between the classic Origin system and the anticipated Tau storyline.
That location has practical use as well as narrative weight. The official page says players will need to enhance melee damage at Yuvan Peak as their best option against the new Entropic Eximus enemies. Digital Extremes says those enemies appear across Zariman nodes and are vulnerable to Operator damage at a reduced rate, but the page pushes melee preparation as the stronger answer.
The Zariman piece is Melica's Lab, a newly discovered area aboard the Zariman Ten Zero. Digital Extremes says the lab's discovery is tied to resilient Entropic Eximus enemies and a dormant but growing connection to the Man in the Wall. MMOHuts reports that defeating Entropic Eximus enemies can drop Entropic Kuva, which players can trade with Cephalon Melica for rewards, including Narin blueprints. That gives the update a familiar Warframe loop: new threat, new currency, new vendor, new frame chase.
Veteran content is coming later, and that changes the launch plan
Players looking for the hardest squad content in the Warframe update live today should keep expectations calibrated. Digital Extremes says Glacial Defiance is designed for teams of veterans who want to test their gear and skill, supports up to six Tenno, and uses Weekly Cryobells acquired from Yuvan Peak for increased rewards and squad-stacking modifiers. The same official page also states that Glacial Defiance will release in the weeks after the main Iceblade of Narin update.
That delay creates two launch tracks. The first is immediate: claim Banshee, start exploring Narin's acquisition path, visit Yuvan Peak, and engage with Melica's Lab and Entropic Eximus activity on the Zariman. The second is preparatory: tune melee setups, revisit survivability, and watch for the Glacial Defiance release window if you are chasing higher-pressure squad play.
MMOHuts also reports that Epoch Operation: Taubound is scheduled to begin on Oct. 15 and that players will need to have completed The Hex and The Old Peace to fully participate. Digital Extremes' Iceblade page tells players to log in and check where they are in the main story questline so they can prepare. Taken together, the sources point to a launch where progression status matters. Iceblade of Narin is available now, but full participation in everything around it may depend on where your account sits in Warframe's quest chain.
How to approach Iceblade of Narin on day one
If you are returning for Narin, start with the time-limited claim. The confirmed free Banshee login reward runs only from Sept. 23 to Oct. 7, and the rework makes her worth testing before the window closes. After that, check your main quest progress from inside Warframe, as Digital Extremes recommends, because later Iceblade-adjacent content and October's Taubound operation have stated progression hooks.
For Narin herself, expect a frame built around Cold status setup rather than static defense. Her listed abilities reward hitting multiple enemies, keeping shields healthy, building Ice, and converting Frozen targets into explosions or weapon buffs. That should appeal to players who like high-activity frames that fold mobility, status, melee, and gun damage into one rhythm.
For veteran squads, do not burn out expecting the whole update to peak on launch day. Glacial Defiance is explicitly post-launch content, and the Riven Splicer system is reported by MMOHuts as arriving alongside it. The smart play is to use this first stretch to claim the free frame, learn Narin's economy, farm the Zariman additions, and get loadouts ready for the six-Tenno challenge when Digital Extremes opens that door.
