The festival is live, and the short timer is the real pressure
The Elder Scrolls Online Witches Festival 2026 is running from Wednesday, October 21 through Wednesday, November 4, giving players a two-week window for passive double XP, Plunder Skull farming, new Zhekleg armor style pages, and the event’s Trade Bar economy. MMOHuts lists the start time as 10 AM ET on October 21, while ArzyeLBuilds lists the same date and a 10 AM EST time. TheClick, citing ZeniMax’s event calendar, gives the full window as October 21 to November 4 and notes the UK conversion as 3 PM BST at the start and 3 PM GMT at the end after the clock change.
The useful tension for returning players is that this is not a passive login reward event. The bonus XP is passive, but the reward structure asks you to touch several systems before the deadline: a starter quest if you want the Witchmother’s Whistle, daily boss kills for Plunder Skulls, special event quests for extra legendary skulls, and the Impresario if you care about older cosmetics or this year’s Sanguine-themed collectible fragments. MassivelyOP also frames the event as running “through November 4,” which makes the end date the practical planning line.
The Witches Festival is also arriving inside a larger seasonal reset. Polygon reports that The Elder Scrolls Online Season Two: Echoes of Skyrim is live across Mac, PlayStation, Windows PC, and Xbox, and runs through January 27, 2027. That season folds the Greymoor Chapter and Wolfhunter DLC into the base game for everyone who owns ESO, with Markarth scheduled to join the base game on November 9. The festival ends before Markarth arrives, so if you are returning specifically for the Halloween event, your pre-November 4 priorities should be the festival systems first, then the broader Skyrim content track.
How to start Witches Festival 2026 without wasting time
MMOHuts and ArzyeLBuilds both say the event begins with the free quest “The Witchmother’s Bargain,” available from the Quest Starters section of the in-game Crown Store. MMOHuts adds that players can also pick it up at Olyve’s Brewery in Glenumbra, Stonefalls, or Auridon. TheClick gives the same general route, naming the Crow Caller outside Olyve’s Brewery in those starter zones as another way in.
For first-time festival participants, the quest rewards the Witchmother’s Whistle collectible. Using the whistle summons the Witchmother’s Cauldron, and drinking from it gives your character the skeleton transformation. ArzyeLBuilds describes the quest items as a pumpkin, guts, and an Essence of Death, with the Essence of Death obtainable by defeating a delve boss. MMOHuts notes that players who completed the quest in a previous year do not need to do it again.
The important clarification for this year’s Elder Scrolls Online event guide is that the whistle is no longer the thing you must babysit for experience. MMOHuts says players receive a passive 100% XP bonus during the event, and ArzyeLBuilds is explicit that all players receive the passive bonus while the event is live. TheClick likewise says the 100% XP bonus activates automatically and is not conditional on using the Witchmother’s Whistle or drinking from the cauldron every two hours. If you are returning after older Witches Festival routines, treat the whistle as a collectible and transformation tool, not the gate to ESO double XP.
Double XP should shape your first evenings back
The cleanest confirmed reward in ESO Witches Festival rewards is also the easiest to overlook because it requires no special action: the event-wide 100% XP bonus. For returning players, that changes the order of operations. If you have a character close to a build milestone, a companion of goals tied to routine play, or an alt you have been delaying, the festival’s passive XP window is the time-sensitive system. The sources do not state any special stacking rules for other boosts, so the safe guidance is simple: count on the event’s passive 100% XP, then check your own consumables and account buffs in-game rather than assuming interactions from prior years.
The timing is especially favorable because Echoes of Skyrim has expanded the base-game pool. Polygon reports that Greymoor and Wolfhunter are now included for base-game owners. Greymoor adds Western Skyrim, Solitude, Blackreach, its storyline, Antiquities, and the Kyne’s Aegis 12-player Trial, while Wolfhunter brings Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices, with Polygon also reporting new solo versions of those two dungeons in Season Two. That gives returning players more current activity space during an XP event without needing to buy those older DLC releases separately.
There is one caveat for planners. Polygon says Markarth, which completes the Dark Heart of Skyrim storyline, joins the base game on November 9. That is after the Witches Festival end date. If your goal is efficient festival progress, do not hold your event schedule for Markarth access. Use the double XP while the festival is live, then treat Markarth as the next seasonal beat.
Plunder Skulls, gold skulls, and the corrected daily ceiling
The Witches Festival reward loop is built around bosses. MMOHuts says players can collect Plunder Skulls from bosses during the event, while TheClick lists qualifying encounters as delve, public dungeon, world and final dungeon bosses, arena and Trial bosses, incursion bosses, and Infinite Archive encounters. ArzyeLBuilds similarly says boss monsters of any type can drop Plunder Skulls alongside their normal loot.
Regular Plunder Skulls can contain event-themed materials and collectibles. MMOHuts lists possible drops including Glenmoril Wyrd maps, Witchy Writs, furnishings, recipes, motif items, and alchemy reagents. ArzyeLBuilds adds Hollowjack and Dremora style items, fragments, Witches Festival recipes, furnishings, furnishing recipes, reagents, and related rewards. The higher-value chase is the legendary Dremora Plunder Skull, awarded from the first qualifying kill of different boss types each day, according to MMOHuts, TheClick, and ArzyeLBuilds.
There is a notable correction here. TheClick reports that ZeniMax initially printed a three-skull limit in its 2026 event article, but community manager Kevin Gbolie corrected the figure before the event began. According to TheClick’s account of that correction, players can still earn up to ten gold Dremora Plunder Skulls per day, using the same structure as last year: first qualifying kills across boss categories plus the two special daily quests. That matters because the optimal route is broader than killing one quick boss and logging out.
The two special daily quests are also part of the reward math. MMOHuts says “Plucking the Crow” is aimed at small groups and rewards a legendary Dremora Plunder Skull tied to the Crowborne Horror, while “The Lord of Fear” is built for larger groups and rewards a legendary Dremora Plunder Skull tied to Lord Hollowjack. The same source says those special skulls have a very rare chance to include jackpot rewards with full Zhekleg or Dremora style page sets. Treat those jackpots as a bonus, not a plan.
Zhekleg pages are the new cosmetic chase, but old rewards still compete for your bars
The new headline cosmetic for the 2026 event is the Zhekleg armor style. MMOHuts says new unbound Zhekleg armor style pages are part of this year’s reward pool. ArzyeLBuilds also lists new Zhekleg armor style pages among the special rewards from Dremora Plunder Skulls. TheClick says the year’s new Zhekleg outfit pages can be obtained through festival rewards or the Impresario.
“Unbound” is a meaningful word for players who care about completion. MMOHuts identifies the Zhekleg pages as unbound, which implies players may be able to trade or sell them rather than being locked to personal drops. The provided sources do not give drop rates, so there is no evidence-based way to say whether farming, buying from other players, or using the Impresario will be the most efficient path. The practical read is to collect your daily skull opportunities first, then decide whether the market or vendor route makes sense once prices settle on your platform.
The event also continues the older Witches Festival collection loop. MMOHuts says the Impresario returns during the event and sells older Witches Festival rewards for Trade Bars, including Crowborn Hunter, Soulspun Wicker, and Grave Dancer outfit style pages. The same report says this year’s Sanguine-themed collectible fragments are available, including the first fragment for the upcoming Grotto of Desires house. That creates a real tradeoff: Zhekleg pages are the fresh 2026 chase, but account-wide fragment progress and older style gaps may be harder to ignore if you missed previous years.
For Dremora collectors, boss type still matters. ArzyeLBuilds says Dremora Motif pages are tied to different boss types, with examples including final arena bosses dropping bows or legs, world event bosses dropping daggers or gloves, delve bosses dropping staves or belts, final dungeon bosses dropping helmets or maces, public dungeon bosses dropping shields or boots, final trial bosses dropping swords or chests, and world bosses dropping shoulders or axes. That table-like structure rewards targeted play rather than random repetition.
Trade Bars are the new event currency friction point
Trade Bars are the currency to watch during the Elder Scrolls Online Witches Festival 2026 because ESO has recently changed how major events feed event vendors. UESP’s events overview says major events award up to 200 or 300 Trade Bars per day for participating, and notes that from late 2018 to early 2026 major events instead awarded Event Tickets. That context explains why some returning players may log in expecting the old ticket flow and find a different currency conversation around the Impresario and the Gold Coast Bazaar.
The sources are slightly uneven in how they phrase the daily Trade Bar grant. MMOHuts says the first qualifying boss kill of each type per day grants a legendary Dremora Plunder Skull and 300 Trade Bars. TheClick, however, frames the practical goal as earning 300 Trade Bars each day, saying players should begin with a qualifying boss to pick up daily Trade Bars. UESP’s broader event overview supports a daily cap framing by describing major events as awarding up to 200 or 300 Trade Bars per day. Because of that, the safest reader guidance is to treat 300 Trade Bars as the daily participation target, then verify the exact in-game award text when you claim it.
That distinction affects time management. If you only have 20 minutes, your first priority is an eligible boss kill that secures the daily currency payout. If you have more time, expand into additional boss categories for legendary skulls, then the special daily quests. Spending should follow account goals. Players missing old Witches Festival style pages can use the Impresario selection MMOHuts lists. Players chasing the 2026 set should compare Zhekleg page drops against vendor availability. Players invested in housing should note the first Grotto of Desires fragment mentioned by MMOHuts, since fragment systems usually punish missed appearances more than ordinary drop farming does.
A returning player’s priority order before November 4
If you are coming back for the festival rather than living in ESO every night, start with the actions that disappear fastest. First, make sure the event is active in your region and claim the intro quest only if you need the Witchmother’s Whistle or want the skeleton cauldron. Prior completion carries forward, according to MMOHuts, and the XP bonus is passive according to MMOHuts, ArzyeLBuilds, and TheClick.
Second, get your daily Trade Bars through an eligible boss before doing optional wandering. The exact source language around “each type” versus a daily 300-bar target is messy, but UESP’s major-event framing and TheClick’s guide both point to 300 Trade Bars as the daily currency goal. Do not leave that until the end of a session if you are prone to distractions in Tamriel.
Third, diversify boss types if you care about legendary Dremora Plunder Skulls or specific Dremora pages. TheClick’s corrected report that players can earn up to ten gold skulls per day makes category coverage valuable. ArzyeLBuilds’ boss-type mapping also means a player missing a particular Dremora slot should not farm only delves out of habit.
Fourth, decide whether group content is worth your time that day. MMOHuts identifies “Plucking the Crow” as a small-group daily and “The Lord of Fear” as a larger-group daily, both tied to legendary Dremora Plunder Skull rewards. If you are solo-only, the event still has value through passive XP and boss skulls, but those quests are part of the higher-ceiling reward path.
Finally, spend with the end date in mind. Zhekleg pages are the new 2026 style chase, older pages are back through the Impresario, and the first Grotto of Desires house fragment is part of this year’s Sanguine-themed collectible set, according to MMOHuts. Before November 4, check your Collections, identify the cosmetics you genuinely want, and use Trade Bars on gaps that would bother you later. The festival is generous, but two weeks is still two weeks.
