Attack on Titan 3 adds open-world Exterior Scouting Missions, a winter release window, and a broader campaign covering the full story across PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Attack on Titan 3 Opens the Battlefield

Attack on Titan 3 is expanding Omega Force’s titan-slaying formula with an open-world structure built around Exterior Scouting Missions. Koei Tecmo’s next adaptation is scheduled to launch this winter for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, giving the series its first current-gen entry after Attack on Titan 2 arrived back in 2018.

Exterior Scouting Missions Push Beyond the Walls

The headline change is the move from mission-focused battlefields into a wider map where players can explore beyond the walls between main story missions. These Exterior Scouting Missions let players establish supply bases, expand a scouting network, fight Titans in hostile territory, and decide how far to push before the situation becomes too costly.

Resource Pressure Could Reshape the Combat Loop

Attack on Titan’s best action has always come from momentum: firing ODM gear, cutting across rooftops or tree lines, reading a Titan’s movement, and committing to a high-speed strike before the window closes. An open-world layer changes that rhythm. If blades can break, ODM fuel can run low, squad morale can drop, and injuries or death can punish overextension, then each fight outside the walls carries more weight than a clean arena encounter.

From Set Pieces to Survival Runs

That shift could help Attack on Titan 3 avoid feeling like a simple replay of familiar battles. The series’ set pieces still matter, especially with the campaign covering the story from early Scout Regiment training through the final battle, but the space between those climaxes may now have its own tension. A long scouting run can build dread in a way a standard mission select screen cannot. The player is not only asking how to kill the next Titan, but whether the squad has enough fuel, blades, morale, and time to make it back.

Custom Character, Full Story, Familiar Cast

Players will once again create an original Scout Regiment member rather than taking direct control of Eren Yeager as the sole lead. The custom character fights alongside familiar faces from Attack on Titan, with squad members bringing their own skills and strengths. Koei Tecmo has also said the game will retell the full story, which makes this more than a direct continuation of Attack on Titan 2.

Combat Still Centers on ODM Speed

The new trailer keeps the focus on ODM movement, squad-based action, and Titan takedowns. Reports from the gameplay presentation point to smoother traversal and Titans with new attacks and behaviors, which should matter in a more open structure. If the world is larger but the encounters remain predictable, the change risks becoming empty travel. If Titans patrol, pressure supply routes, and force emergency decisions, Attack on Titan 3 open world design could give the series a stronger sense of danger.

Winter Release Window and Platforms

The Attack on Titan 3 release window is currently listed as winter. That leaves room for either late 2026 or early 2027 depending on how Koei Tecmo defines the season, so players should treat the timing as a window rather than a fixed date for now. The confirmed platforms are Attack on Titan 3 PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

A More Approachable Route Through the Finale

Attack on Titan 3 will also include a Casual Mode for players who want a less demanding way to experience the story. The game will feature Japanese voice acting with text support in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. MAPPA, the studio behind Attack on Titan: The Final Season, is producing the opening animation, with Arifumi Imai directing it, though reporting from Polygon notes that the opening cinematic is planned to arrive after launch in a future update.
